Hurrican Rita & Aftermath

Hello Everyone!

I just wanted to let you know that I am waiting to hear from my Uncle Don and Aunt Lynne to see how they are doing as well as how their house faired during Hurricane Rita. My uncle said before the storm hit that they were far enough inland from Galveston Bay that they wouldn't be affected by the water damage. However, the wind could definitely be a factor. I plan on calling my sister, Jessica, today. Her and Chris live in League City which is a suburb of Houston. They evacuated on Wednesday (I believe that was the day) with Chris' parents, Larry and Linda.

If you are looking for a reputable organization to contribute financially to, please donate your money either through your local church or through the American Red Cross (www.RedCross.org). I am pleased to brag on our congegration at Living Word here in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota (www.lwcc.org). Our church has committed to giving $100,000 to the relief efforts. I tell you this not to say our church is better than others or anything like that. I tell you to encourage you and let you see what happens when everyone works together! Our church is large (we have approximately 9000 members). Putting that information aside, we are all called to do what we can do through the body that God was pleased to place us. Also, I am happy to say that large companies are getting involved. Wal-Mart and Sam's Club have donated $20,000,000 (yes, you read that right - 20 million dollars) to date to the relief/recovery efforts.

Please keep our local and national leaders in your prayers as we help those in the South recover from these natural disasters. President and First Lady Bush need our prayers. Pray that they would use the wisdom of God in how the country is governed and where financial resources are placed. Pray that they would take care of themselves. There is a lot going on right now in our country with the natural disasters of Katrina and Rita along with the War on Terrorism. Pray for our soldiers. Please remember to pray for their safety. God has promised safety to us. Read Psalm 91. It is a very good Psalm!!

Search your heart and talk with God to see where you can get involved with your finances in the relief/recovery efforts. Until next time! In His Service - Steph.
